Academy Overview

Each PLA module has been designed as a linear progression. After you watch the introduction video you will begin the module by clicking on the Independent Study button and work your way through the Self-Assessment 1, Web Presentation, Self-Assessment 2, the Case Study, Interactive Teleconference, and, finally, the module evaluation. Note that as you work through the module segments the next ”step” becomes available --- with the module evaluation being the last step. Once you have completed the module evaluation you will be able to access the next module in your rotation.

Each module for the Pharmacy Leadership Academy has been structured as follows:

  1. Introduction. When you enter the module, you will first encounter a short video introduction by the faculty member. Click the ”Play” button to view the video.

  1. Independent Study. The faculty member for each module has assembled a required reading list. The Self-Assessment 1 questions will cover the required readings only. Several required readings are posted on the Web site and can be accessed by clicking on the citation, yet not all required readings were able to be posted here. Therefore, please refer to your notebook or books that were mailed with the notebook. The notebook also contains a list of all the additional suggested readings you may what to read on your own.

  1. Self-Assessment 1. After the required readings, you will complete Self-Assessment 1. A score of 70% or better is needed for Continuing Education (CE) credit. You have two opportunities to complete and pass the self-assessment questions. The faculty members have designed the questions to highlight the principal points within the Independent Study Required Readings. You must complete Self-Assessment 1 before moving on to the Web Presentation.

  1. Web Presentation. The Web Presentation is an audio PowerPoint® presentation. The presentations are approximately 45-60 minutes in length.

  1. Self-Assessment 2. A second series of self-assessment questions follows the Web Presentation. Again, for CE credit you will need to score a 70% or higher. You will again have two chances to complete the assessment questions. Once again the faculty have designed the questions to reinforce the main points of their presentations.

  1. Case Study. The format for the Case Study may vary from module to module, but in all incidences the Case Study will be the central topic for the Interactive Teleconference. The Case Study is intended to help bring the major points presented in the Independent Study and Web Presentation to a real life situation. You should be prepared to discuss the case with the faculty member and your colleagues during the interactive teleconference.

In some case studies you will be asked to respond to a question that the faculty member has proposed and post it to the Web site. Your response, and those of your colleagues, will be available for review to provide an interactive learning experience. The faculty member may use the responses to frame the teleconference discussion.

  1. Interactive Teleconference. You will join the faculty member and students in your section for a 60-90 minute conference call. The date and time for your conference call can be found in your notebook. The time zone for all calls is posted as Eastern Standard Time.  The Case Study will be the focus of the discussion and you should be prepared to address any questions provided by the faculty member. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions of the faculty member and your colleagues. Your active participation in the conference call is expected.

The call-in number for all of the Teleconferences will be 301-664-8802. The general instructions are as follows:

You will be asked for a Conference ID, and unless specified otherwise, the Conference ID will be the date. You will also be asked to enter a Conference Password, and that too will be the date. For example, if the call is on January 29, 2008 you would call 301-664-8802 and when prompted for the Conference ID, enter 012908 followed by # and similarly when asked for the Conference Password enter 012908 followed by #. The line will be open five (5) minutes before the scheduled time to give you some time to get connected.

  1. Evaluation. After completing the Interactive Teleconference, click on the module evaluation. Please feel free to be critical in your assessment, as we can only improve with your help. This is very important for the future development of the Pharmacy Leadership Academy. You will not be allowed to move on to the next module until the evaluation is completed.

  1. Access to Modules. We will keep the module you have just finished accessible to you for approximately 7 days after you have completed it. This will allow you to go back and review the material or download any materials that you want to keep for your permanent records.
